Benefits of a Training Camp

Here at DD Intentional Fitness, we recently took the opportunity to escape the UK weather and head off to Lanzarote for a week of swim, bike, run training. A DIY training camp if you like!

Attending a training camp can be a great way to kickstart your season and set you up for achieving those goals you’ve set yourself for the year. Here are some of the top benefits we found from going on camp:

  • So many physical and mental gains from spending a week with like-minded people. The opportunity to meet and reconnect with people who love the sport as much as you do is fantastic, especially after winter training where many of us spend a lot of time training individually.
  • Escaping to a warmer climate (there’s only so much indoor biking and running facing a wall you can take!). There’s likely opportunities too for open water swimming (with clear water and fishes!) which has been lacking over winter.
  • Taking a solid week to get good base miles in before your first race. Facilities and services are set up to make training easy - access to pools, great running routes and smooth cycling roads with considerate drivers!
  • Prioritise rest and reset. Doing as much training as you can whilst being able to rest and recover like the pros, free from daily life demands like work, cooking, family commitments and general life admin!
